Change the session timeout for users

Administration

Available from 18.7.0

Needed permissions: owner

A user’s session timeout determines when they are logged out after a period of inactivity. By default, we log users out after 30 minutes of inactivity.

In this article, we explain how to change the session timeout.

Before you start

Here are a few things to know before you get started:

  • If you’re using Piwik PRO and the site inspector in the same browser, logging out from one also logs you out from the other.
  • If you’re using SSO, keep in mind that the user’s session timeout only affects Piwik PRO, not other services.

Change the session timeout

To change a user’s session timeout, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Piwik PRO.
  2. Go to Menu > Administration.
  3. Navigate to Account.
  4. On the left, click Account settings.
  5. In Session inactivity timeout, change the current timeout.

Note: You can set the timeout from 15 minutes to 8 hours (480 minutes).

  6. Done!
