Visitors’ IP addresses end with zeros because they are masked. IP masking occurs when any of the following options is turned on:
- Administration > Sites & apps > Privacy > IP masking > Mask IP addresses (on)
- Administration > Settings > Privacy > IP masking > Mask IP addresses (on)
- Administration > Sites & apps > Privacy > Ask visitors for consent (on) > When visitors don’t consent > Collect data using a 30-minute cookie (on)
- Administration > Sites & apps > Privacy > Ask visitors for consent (on) > When visitors don’t consent > Collect data without using cookies (on)
Here are the different levels at which an address can be masked. In reports, you’ll see 000 instead of xxx.
- Full IP address: 192.168.111.255 or 1050:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000
- Masked at level 1: 192.168.100.xxx or 1050:0000:0000:0000:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
- Masked at level 2: 192.168.xxx.xxx or 1050:0000:0000:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
- Masked at level 3: 192.xxx.xxx.xxx or 1050:0000:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
- Masked at level 4: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or 1050:00xx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx
- Fully masked: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or :: (short version for 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000)
