In custom reports, you can choose metrics to create a report. Basic metrics are listed in the metric picker, but you can also change a dimension to a metric. For example, a dimension session time
can be changed to a metric average session time
.
To change a dimension to a metric, follow these steps:
- Go to Menu > Analytics.
- Navigate to Custom reports.
- Create a new custom report.
- While setting up a report, add a dimension to the report.
- Click the dimension and pick the metric to which you want to change the dimension.
Tip: Dimensions are marked green and metrics blue. When you change a dimension to a metric it will change from green to blue.
- Repeat this process for other dimensions and finish creating the report.
Tip: In the explorer report, drag and drop dimensions to the table, not to the dimension section because you’ll change it into a metric.
Extract or group a dimension
Some dimensions can be extracted to a simpler form, for example, a dimension page URL
can be extracted to page URL (path)
. Or they can be grouped in a different way, for example, a dimension date (group by day)
can be grouped by a day of the week.
To extract a dimension or group it differently, follow these steps:
- Go to Menu > Analytics.
- Navigate to Custom reports.
- Create a new custom report.
- While setting up a report, add a dimension to the report.
- Click the dimension and pick the extract or group that you need.
- Repeat this process for other dimensions and finish creating the report.
