If you want to find out which ads drive sales or assist in reaching your website goals, you can use our CDP and send click conversions to Google Ads. This will help you optimize your marketing strategies by focusing on ads that convert.

In this article, we’ll explain how to send click conversions from Piwik PRO to Google Ads.

Before you start

Here are a few helpful things to know before you start:

  • You have to integrate your Google Ads account with Piwik PRO. Read more
  • This integration complies with Google Consent Mode v2. The new flags in Consent Mode v2 (ad_users and ad_personalization) are mapped to Piwik PRO consent for Conversion tracking and Remarketing. Make sure to collect the relevant consent types via the Piwik PRO consent form.

Send click conversions to Google Ads

To send click conversions from Piwik PRO to Google Ads, follow these steps:

  1. First, we’ll create a conversion action in Google Ads. In your Google Ads account, click the Goals icon.
  2. Click the Conversions drop down in the section menu.
  3. Click Summary.

  4. In Summary, click + New conversion action.
  5. Select Import.

  6. Select CRMs, files, or other data sources. Then select Track conversions from clicks.

  7. Select Skip this step and set up a data source later.

  8. Click Continue.
  9. Select Conversion goal. Example: Contact. Then enter a conversion name. Example: Contact form.

  10. Click Add.
  11. Done! Your new conversion action has been created and it’ll show up on a list.
  12. In the next steps, we’ll create an audience and activation in Piwik PRO.
  13. Log in to Piwik PRO.
  14. Go to Menu > Customer Data Platform.
  15. Create an audience. It needs to have proper conditions, for example:
    • Event: Goal name is Contact form lead
    • Attribute: Last Gclid is not
    • Attribute: Last Gclid is not undefined

    Note: In our example, we’ve created a goal called ‘Contact form lead’ that is achieved when a user submits a contact form. You can create your own goal or use a different event to define the desired audience.

  16. Create Google Ads activation.
  17. Select the audience you’ve created in step 15. Example: When a user joins this audience: GA: Contact from leads.

  18. Select Conversion action. This is the conversion action you’ve created in step 10 in Google Ads. Example: Contact form.

  19. Check your conversion value. See if the currency set in Piwik PRO (Administration > Sites & apps > Data collection > Currency) matches the currency set in Google Ads.

  20. Keep Consent filters as they are. Google Ads integration supports Google Consent Mode v2. You need to collect Conversion tracking consent from users in regions covered by GDPR or similar regulations.

  21. Click Save.
  22. All done! Now our CDP will send click conversion to your Google Ads account each time a user coming from a Google Ads campaign submits a contact form.
