After integrating Google Search Console with Piwik PRO, you can use search console metrics and dimensions to create custom reports. While the pre-built Google Search Console report offers valuable insights, if you’re looking to create a report that combines different data, you have the freedom to do so with custom reports.
In this article, we’ll walk you through creating a custom report and using dimensions and metrics correctly.
Before you start
Here are some things to know before you start:
- Google aggregates Search Console data, so we can’t match data to a specific session.
- You can only create a report that combines Google Search Console data with Analytics data if you use matching dimensions like
Device type
,Continent
,Country
,Session entry URL
orDate
. - If you use the search engine keyword dimension, you can only combine it with metrics from Google Search Console such as
Impressions (search engine)
,Clicks (search engine)
,CTR (search engine)
orAverage position (search engine)
. That’s because this dimension doesn’t match any dimension in Piwik PRO. - If you see zeros in your report, it means that you have used the dimension that doesn’t match the Google Search Console dimension.

- On the right, click Dimensions.

- Date
- Add another nested dimension if you want.
- On the right, click Metrics.
- Scroll down until you see Google Search Console and click the drop-down menu.

- Clicks (search engine)
- Impressions (search engine)
- CTR (search engine)
- Average position (search engine)
Note: Google Search Console metrics are marked with with the note
(search engine)
. This allows you to distinguish them from other metrics. - Select the analytics metrics you want to use in your report.
- Add the following filter:
Source/Medium is google/organic
. It’s a good idea to add this filter because then you’ll see data for analytics metrics narrowed down to only those that come from Google search. - When you’re done, click Save.
- Job done! You can now view your report.
